SD-4 Generator Interlock Kit

this kit fits brands:

 Square D

type of circuit breaker panel:

 1 handle vertical throw up and down main breaker centered over 2 breaker columns with a 3 to 3 1/2 inch space between main breaker and column breakers

panel spaces used:

 2 at the top of the right side breaker column

how it works:

 With the main breaker ON and the generator breaker OFF, the interlock sits with the top tab against the right side of the main breaker toggle and the bottom tab to the left of the generator breaker toggle. The generator breaker cannot be turned ON in this position. Moving the main breaker toggle to OFF lets the interlock slide left and allows the generator breaker to be turned ON. In this position the interlock blocks the main breaker from being turned back ON.

National Electrical Code requires a system in place that prevents an emergency generator feeding back into the utility line. This interlock will only allow the generator breaker to be switched on if the main breaker is off. Or the main breaker to be turned on if the generator breaker is off.

You will also need:
  • A generator with a 240 volt outlet
  • A double breaker located at the top of the right side breaker column of your electrical panel box
  • An inlet box and wiring connected to that double breaker
Using this interlock will allow you to power your existing house wiring with your generator (within its wattage limits), including 220v circuits such as a well pump.
